In the medical world, there is no cause for this disorder. A patient may go to their medical doctor and be given a diagnosis based on certain symptoms, and the patient is given drugs as a course of treatment. These drugs generally target the symptoms and can have terrible side effects like digestive system upset and liver damage. Fibromyalgia affects 3 to 6 million people in the United States. Mostly women are diagnosed in early to middle adulthood.

Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

All of these symptoms can be experienced in other diseases as well. Many fibromyalgia-diagnosed patients have different symptoms, and this is why no two fibromyalgia patients may be exactly alike. Their symptoms can vary substantially.

  • Musculoskeletal pain all over the body - Musculoskeletal aches at three or more sites for three or more months. Severe tenderness at specific points on the body such as the occiput, lower cervicals, trapezius, supraspinatus, second rib, lateral epicondyle, gluteal, greater trochanter, and knee. Some fibromyalgia diagnoses are given with a patient indicating that just 5 of these points are tender.

  • Chronic Fatigue - A person may feel exhausted most of the time and need a lot of sleep just to get through a normal day. Many also report extreme difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. They may also not have a stress reserve, making it difficult to deal with any additional stress.

  • Sleep disturbances - A patient that has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia may experience insomnia and waking up many times throughout the night. This is debilitating because the body doesn't have a chance to rejuvenate and regenerate. Sleep is essential for the body to function properly and for mental and physical well-being.

  • Brain fog - Many patients who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia report feeling like they have cloudy thinking and sluggish memory. They report that their brain feels clouded and like a veil is over their thinking process.

  • Cramping and weakness - Many patients who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia report that they have leg cramps and other cramping or muscle contractions. They also report weakness. It may be difficult for them to do normal activities of daily living, such as opening a jar or putting dishes away.

  • Headaches - A fibromyalgia diagnosis may include a patient reporting that they have multiple tension and/or migraine headaches throughout an average week. Usually, more than one time per week, and there is no set location to the headaches.

  • Balance problems - Fibromyalgia patients report a loss in coordination and balance. As a result, they may report increased falls.

  • Numbness or tingling in the face, arms, hands, legs, or feet - This may also be coupled with itchy or burning skin in these same areas.

  • Emotional imbalances - Many fibromyalgia patients report feelings of anxiety and depression.

Natural Remedy for Fibromyalgia

I have had the good fortune of treating many patients who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia by their medical doctors. These patients do very well with nutritional muscle testing.

The remedies introduced are very helpful in reducing pain in many fibromyalgia patients and restoring musculoskeletal function to their bodies. They also have wonderful benefits in helping their entire body function better.

Nutrition Response Testing can identify food sensitivities, which the identification of has been studied to help fibromyalgia patients reduce their symptoms.

Many fibromyalgia patients test positive for sensitivities to gluten, gliadin, solanine, casein, lactose, zein, soy, methylxanthines, albumin and other proteins, sugars, and food toxins contained within foods. Nutritional muscle testing also identifies levels of toxicity, such as from heavy metals, chemicals, industrial pollutants, pesticides, and the list goes on and on.

The rise in
autoimmune deficiencies such as fibromyalgia has been linked to the increasing levels of pollutants and toxicity that we are exposed to in everyday modern life. Many of these autoimmune disorders have only come into existence in the last fifty years or so, which correlates to a huge increase in pollutants and toxic chemicals in our environments.

Nutritional muscle testing also identifies dysbiosis (microorganism imbalance) and nutritional deficiencies. Many of the fibromyalgia patients that I have treated may have specific mineral or vitamin deficiencies, which when addressed results in substantial improvement. I have also noticed a correlation with many patients that have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia as having dysbiosis, such as yeast and other microorganism balance. By correcting these imbalances with specific nutritional supplements their toxic overload and dysbiosis can be lessened and eliminated. The result is these patients feel better with decreased pain, increased energy, decreased headaches and an overall reduction in symptoms.

Another component of natural remedies for the fibromyalgia patient may be using the
neuroemotional technique (NET). This technique helps the body to release emotional stress that is interfering with the normal processes of the body. Since, emotional stress is also theorized by the medical community as having some role in the cause of fibromyalgia, this is a logical remedy to investigate for the patient. I have had great success using NET with many diversified conditions.

The triad of health includes physical and structural, emotional and mental, and nutritional. All three of these factors are addressed through the many techniques that I offer patients in my practice. Each one of these may offer a certain percentage of healing for the individual fibromyalgia patient. By addressing all three of these factors the fibromyalgia patient has the most likelihood of achieving the best possible outcome to not only reduce their symptoms, but get their lives back!

Natural Remedies for Fibromyalgia - A Case Study

A 35-year-old woman became a new patient in my office about six months ago. She was referred to me by a friend of hers who insisted that I could help her friend with chiropractic care. This new patient came to New York at 18 to pursue her dancing career. She was accepted into a very prestigious dance company and had great success in her career until, as she describes it, her body just gave up.

In her late twenties, she started to experience great muscle pain, fatigue, soreness, muscle knots, pain and weakness. She explained to me that she thought this was just her dancing catching up to her. Her symptoms got worse and worse, until she was forced to stop dancing and end the career that she loved so much.

In 2010, she was given a diagnosis of fibromyalgia by her medical doctor. Her specific symptoms included muscle pain all over her body, brain fog, and insomnia. Fibromyalgia is a disorder in which there is no blood test to identify it. Diagnosis is based upon certain criteria such as muscle pain all over the body, fatigue, sleep difficulties, brain fog, morning stiffness, muscle knots, cramping and weakness, headaches, balance problems, itchy/burning skin and other symptoms.

In the medical world, many diagnoses are given based on a person's symptoms. Most of the time a drug is given to mask the symptoms, but not treat the true cause of their symptoms. Many people come into my practice complaining of one or all of these similar symptoms that are indicated for a typical fibromyalgia diagnosis.  Whether they are given a diagnosis or not, the important thing to figure out through my work is what type of toxicity and food sensitivities are going on in their body. After these are identified, adjustments to diet and specific nutritional supplements can be recommended that help to rid the body of underlying causes and toxicity.

I started with my new patient with chiropractic care and administered specific gentle focused musculoskeletal, neurolymphatic, and energy work. She noticed that her sleep improved with two visits. On the third visit, I evaluated her with the nutrition muscle-testing technique and identified sensitivities to solanine (neurotoxin in night shades), zein (the protein in corn), and casein (the protein in dairy).

The evaluation also identified a positive muscle test for the homeopathic vials of babesia (microorganism of spirochete origin), mixed fungus vial 2 (candida, yeast, molds), and fibrin (hypercoagulation). I recommended to her a specific anti-yeast dietary protocol and specific nutritional supplements that blocked her positive muscle test for each individual homeopathic vial. When someone has this much show up in their test, it usually takes three to four months to see a significant improvement with many ups and downs along the way.

She had many ups and downs. Her first two weeks she felt worse, which is very common in the initial phases of detoxification. She experienced more skin reactions, headaches, and fatigue. The body can go through a healing crisis as it is going through detoxification, and as many endotoxins are being eliminated from the body. Some people get worse before they get better, and this is important for me to convey to my patients, so that they have an understanding that this can be a normal part of the healing process.

After week three, her mixed fungus vial 2 vial no longer was positive and she reported the pain in her mid-back that she had for seven years had vanished. She also reported less intensity of pain throughout her body. Week 7 she reported that she had much more clarity and less brain fog. On week 13, the babesia vial no longer tested positive, and she reported her pain levels were sixty percent less than when she started care. Week 20, she reported that her energy levels were better, and she felt like she could get on a plane and travel to see her mom for the first time in years.

It is six months since she began care and her body is still healing, and the process will continue for a long period of time, but her symptoms of fibromyalgia are gone. She went back to her medical doctor and asked him if she still had fibromyalgia, and he replied, "Well if your symptoms are gone, then you no longer have fibromyalgia."
