Natural Remedies for Heavy Metal Poisoning in Manhattan, New York City
When you think of the kinds of poisons that can hurt human beings, some of the first to come to your mind are probably toxins such as arsenic, controlled substances like heroin or cocaine, and even alcohol. Many of us would scarcely consider how dangerous heavy metals like lead, cadmium and mercury are to the human body. Yet, in our increasingly industrialized and polluted world, the dangers of these substances must be a primary consideration for anyone seeking total physical and mental health.
Perhaps the most common source of heavy metal toxins occurs frighteningly close to home for many of us. The most common types of metal poisoning include:
Lead. Most common in younger people, lead poisoning comes from paint, exposure to batteries, and can be found in drinking water.
Cadmium. Generally found in people that work with solder and plating operations, it can also found in the air around industrial plants.
Mercury. Normally ingested by eating large carnivorous fish.
For years, dentists and oral surgeons have been putting metal appliances and amalgam fillings in the mouths of millions of people. These frequently contain heavy metals including mercury, which has been proven to destroy vital proteins, many of which are cell receptors, enzymes and hormones. By attaching to sulfur amino acid building blocks in the proteins, mercury renders them inactive.
By the same token, lead seriously damages the “nuts and bolts” of proteins that nourish us by binding with and neutralizing them. As a result, neuron clusters in the brain are suppressed. Children’s growing brains are particularly susceptible to the deadly effects of lead poisoning, prompting the banning of lead-based paints in the United States. In the most graphic and frightening cases, lead poisoning can be fatal. Recently, hundreds of people in Northern Nigeria became ill or died after villagers began digging for gold in areas with very high lead concentrations.
The hazardous effects of heavy metals may not be on the top of everyone’s panic list, but they certainly have gained the attention of the U.S. government. In 1989, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) declared amalgams to be hazardous substances, so dangerous that their disposal involved a set of strict and specific procedures. As a result, the only safe places to keep amalgams are the following: away from heat in unbreakable sealed containers, or stored in liquid glycerin or photographic fixer solution. Under no circumstances are they to be touched. Incredibly, the only other place these hazardous metals are allowed is in the human mouth.
Even if you have never had dental work, you are not necessarily immune to heavy metal toxicity. Hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, antimony, chromium, and arsenic can also be encountered and taken into the body in other ways. For instance, many water supplies are tainted. In addition, the work you do or even the hobbies you enjoy can expose you to this danger.
Heavy Metal Poisoning Symptoms
Before describing the symptoms of heavy metal poisoning, it is necessary to emphasize that the signs of this condition can vary greatly, not only due to the severity of concentration in the body, but also because of the type of substance to which you may have been exposed. For this reason, it is vital to consult with a health professional who is well-versed in the latest information about heavy metal poisoning. Victims of this toxicity may experience:
Short Term Memory Impairment
Pain in Muscles and Joints
Changes in Vision
Needless to say, many other diseases and conditions can also cause these symptoms, underscoring the importance of medical guidance.
Many who believe they have been adversely exposed to lead, mercury, arsenic or other heavy metals feel overwhelmed and pessimistic. Because these toxins are increasingly found in our polluted world, they mistakenly believe that there is no intervention that can stop or reverse the effects. Although it is true that not all negative consequences can be totally erased, it is a mistake to believe that you have no other choice than to be a passive victim.
Moreover, there are skeptics who will blithely discount the whole idea of heavy metal toxicity, maintaining that it is nothing more than a trumped-up condition invented by the alternative medicine field. In spite of their certainty on this point, however, even they are unable to explain away the EPA’s hazardous waste disposal procedures.
Instead of giving in to depression or listening to the grumblings of doubters and pseudo-scientists, you can be proactive in maintaining and promoting your own health.
If you suspect that you are the victim of heavy metal poisoning, take heart. Competent, professional help is only a click or a phone call away. The first step toward your healthy future involves understanding your current situation.
A Patient Case Study for Heavy Metal Detoxification
Paul was a 55 year old man who suffered from severe migraine headaches for 14 years. He was on very strong anti-migraine medications that only curbed the severity of his migraines.
He was recommended by his wife who had been through a detoxification protocol for candida. The true reason that Paul came into the office was not for his own symptoms, but because his wife told him about the possibility that they were passing candida back and forth.
I analyzed Paul and discovered that he had heavy metal toxicity from mercury and aluminum. He had 2 dental amalgams that were metal and that were very old, so that explained his mercury positive test. As far as aluminum goes, he was using a deodorant that contained aluminum and was cooking with aluminum pots and pans. Paul also tested positive for candida and food sensitivities to soy, dairy and caffeine.
Paul stopped eating all soy, dairy, and gave up his beloved espresso, until He was able to go back to all of these after six weeks.
Paul stopped eating all fish for a six week period, and I recommended that he only eat wild Alaskan salmon going forward as mercury is also found in fish. He went on a three week anti-candida diet and was given chelating supplements and anti-candida supplements.
It took three weeks for Paul to test negative to the Candida vial. He had no change in his headache symptoms but did feel more energy and less foggy. In six weeks the mercury and aluminum vials tested negative. At the end of the fifth week, he noticed that his headaches had reduced remarkably. The frequency had been reduced from every day to every third or fourth day.
After being placed on a maintenance protocol, Paul got off the two migraine medications that he had been on for years. At week seven he couldn't believe that his headaches were completely gone. Paul was so happy, especially because he didn't have expectations to begin with. His openness to help his wife resulted in the resolution of his migraines.
