Do You Accept Insurance?
Like almost every NYC Chiropractor, we accept many out of network insurance plans. We do not accept HMO, EPO, or in network only plans. The HMO, EPO, or in-network plan limit you to a certain list of doctors that your insurance company will pay for treatment.
The other of network plans that we accept include but are not limited to:
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield
- Please contact us if your plan is not on the list.
Many plans have restrictions and limitations for treatment, so the best thing to do is contact us, and we will get the necessary information from your insurance company.
The deductible, maximum number of visits, maximum dollar amount, and diagnosis restrictions are some of the questions that we inquire about to get the most accurate information about your specific plan.
We do the best we can to make the insurance side of your visit experience hassle free as we do submit all necessary information to the insurance company, such as the billing, notes and anything else they may need to process your claims accordingly.
Cash, Check, Visa/MC are also accepted. Please contact us with any of your insurance questions.
What is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic is the science and philosophy concerned with the treatment of mechanical disorders (subluxations) of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of subluxations on the function of the body. Subluxations are misalignments, and or fixations of vertebrae producing nerve pressure, irritation, and interference to the nervous system. Chiropractors locate dysfunction in all joints of the body (primarily the spine) and restore normal joint motion and function.
What is the Structural Premise for Chiropractic Care?
The brain connects to the spinal cord, which connects to branches of nerves that go to every organ, system, and cell in the body. The spinal column is composed of individual vertebrae, which protect the spinal cord. Vertebrae can rotate and put indirect or direct pressure on the spinal nerves, which can cause a negative insult on the nervous system. This nerve pressure can cause pain, and improper nervous signaling to the affected area.
How Long has Chiropractic Been Practiced?
Chiropractic care can be traced back to China and Greece where writings from 2700 BC and 1500 BC mention that spinal manipulation was used to ease low back pain. The greek physician Hippocrates advised "get knowledge of the spine for this is the requisite for many diseases." Daniel David Palmer founded the modern chiropractic profession in the late 19th century.
Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Hurt?
The adjustment is very comfortable most of the time. Slight discomfort has been reported in a small percentage of patients.
What is the Noise that Often Occurs with the Adjustment?
This noise is a release of gases from the joint space when the joint is slightly separated. This noise is not necessary for the adjustment to be effective; it is simply the sound of the joint releasing from a restricted state.
What Type of Education Do Chiropractors Receive?
Chiropractic education is a four year doctorate program, which usually is preceded by a bachelor’s degree from a college or university. Chiropractic education is similar to medical education except the focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders. Post graduate education is required for license renewal in most states.
Is Chiropractic Care Safe?
Yes! Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. As proof, one merely has to compare malpractice rates between chiropractors and other health care professionals. Chiropractor malpractice premiums are a small fraction of those for medical doctors. Insurance companies on a large scale are covering chiropractic care, because of the safety and effectiveness of treatment.
Is it Okay for Me to Adjust Myself?
No. A chiropractor finds and corrects a specific area of the spine that is not functioning properly. Self-manipulation is counterproductive, because it makes areas of the spine hyper mobile and unstable. It may feel good initially, but results in long term negative effects on the body.
Does Chiropractic Care Work for All Types of Health Problems?
No. However, chiropractic care can be successful with a wide variety of health problems because of the effect on improving nervous system function. A normal nerve supply allows the body’s natural healing capacity to reach an optimum level.
Is it Safe to See a Chiropractor if I’m Pregnant?
Pregnant mothers that have chiropractic care have found that delivery is easier for themselves and their baby. All adjustment techniques are adapted for size, individual effectiveness, and pregnancy.
